Quirks

I fed up about an hour ago and I remembered that I wanted to write something in particular about my weird girls.

Gracie always pees before dinner and sometimes before morning hay too. I don't know when she started but I noticed a little while after I brought her home off agistment. She never stands at the gate whinnying & demanding dinner until after she has wandered off to pee (very lady like mind you, squatting on pointed toes!).

Allie on the other hand will yawn multiple times before she gets her dinner. Shows how bored she is about food!! She started doing it about 3 months ago, and I catch her yawning nearly everyday, even if she hasn't been worked and just sat around in the paddock all day long. Big, long, jaw-breaking, eye-popping, tounge-twirling yawns. It's cute and pretty goofy.

I love these little funny quirks about our ponies. All put together, it makes them who they are, makes their personalities.

What strange things do your horses get up to?

lol silly ponies! Hampton is quirky at feeding time. I have ended up just putting hi feed bucket on the ground because he ends up slinging it, pawing at it, and flinging food until it's a mess and on the floor anyway. I find that just putting the bucket on the ground keeps the flinging at a minimum but he will still paw at it and nudge the bucket around his stall. So weird!!

Oh Karen, doesn't that just make your blood boil seeing them throw their feed all over the place?! I have had to get a bucket specially designed to bolt to the fence because as soon as you put Allie's feed in her bucket, she grabs it with her teeth and FLINGS the bucket across her yard or stable, and she isn't happy until the feed is scattered all over the place!! Then she doesn't want to eat it because it's dirty and on the ground. Waste of money!! She seems to settle better with the fence bucket and only pushes a small amount of feed over the edges onto the ground before she eats.

Whever it rains, Pirate itches, particularly his rear end. I don't know why, but whenever he is damp he itches- he will use anything it itch himself on, including the feed bucket anchored in his stall. One time he tried that and I decided to just go in and scratch him since he was being so obnoxious. I was laughing about the whole thing and I turned to K and said "Why is my horse so ridiculous?" her only response was "you're the one in there scratching his ass!" Birds of a feather I guess...
